DNA Paternity Testing for Legal Reasons
DDC's paternity tests follow a strict Chain of Custody process to ensure that you receive accurate and legally defensible results. The process involves the following steps:
- Samples will be collected by a trained professional who is an impartial third party, at a location near you.
- The individuals tested will be positively identified so that DDC can verify that each sample came from the correct individual. Tested parties will present a government-issued or other photo ID, and will be photographed and fingerprinted for records.
- Each person's samples will be carefully tracked throughout the entire DNA testing process.
- The test results are notarized and signed by one of our PhD lab directors.
In addition to following chain of custody procedures, DDC gives our clients the best DNA testing and client service in the industry today by running each test twice in our Dual Process™ to guarantee 100% accurate results. Further, DDC maintains confidentiality of each case using strict communication protocols.
We use buccal (cheek) swabs to collect DNA samples, unless a special DNA paternity testing option is needed, such as prenatal testing or viability testing. A standard DNA paternity test will be completed in 3 business days.
Tested Parties
In a standard DNA paternity test, the tested parties include a child, the alleged father, and the mother (called a trio). The cost for this DNA test is $475. We start the testing process with only a $99 non-refundable partial payment.
The mother's participation in the paternity test helps to exclude half of the child's DNA, leaving the other half for comparison with the alleged father's DNA. However, we can perform a paternity test without mother's participation (called a motherless), which involves additional analysis, without any additional charge. Results are equally conclusive whether or not the mother participates. Motherless tests are guaranteed to have at least a 99.9% probability of paternity for inclusions and 100% for exclusion.
We also can test additional children or alleged fathers if needed; there is an additional DNA testing and analysis fee of $195 for each additional tested party.
