Consider the Risks

If the mother already needs to have prenatal screening tests done, it is the perfect time to also undergo paternity testing. If collecting prenatal samples solely for paternity testing, the mother must consider the risks involved in the procedure.

Although it may seem like a good alternative, non-invasive prenatal paternity testing is still in its infancy and is currently being debated among scientists and medical professionals.

Instead of prenatal testing using CVS or amniocentesis, you may consider paternity testing performed at birth, which carries little to no risk. A DNA sample can be taken through a buccal swab of the inside of the baby's cheek and tested for paternity--a painless and non-invasive procedure.
